#HFS2018

I started this Blog when I first started working with the North Lake College Summer Hawaiian Field Studies course. I knew that in 2 weeks, I would learn so much and I needed a place to document it. I was right. I went back through my pictures when I got home and thought, "Did we stop here? I don't remember this!". So I went back to my Blog and was reminded of that moment. So many great moments, so many great stories...here is where I document them. Please read, enjoy, send me questions, comments, etc.

I will be streaming live using Periscope on my Twitter Page. Follow me @Laronna_D on Twitter and @ldoggett on Instagram

Less than 80 days...

I really don't have anything much to say.  In less than 80 days, the #HFS2015 group will be landing in Hawaii.  The warm sun will be beating down on my shoulders (that have 100 SPF on them) and the wind will be blowing in my hair.  I actually had a dream about Hawaii last night.  I don't dream of Hawaii enough.  The work is hard, the hours are long, but come on...it is Hawaii.

This is our classroom...

This is the correct way to learn about Science!

HFS 2015 Begins!

The 2015 Hawaiian Field Studies Course has officially begun! We had a great Orientation night and two days of class.  We introduced plants and critters.  One nature walk to the creek to do a water quality lesson and one nature walk to check out plants.

Photography lesson next...then Geology in Oklahoma!

85 days until I land in Hawaii!

Team Biology or Team Geology...

To be fair, there is also friendly banter between the Biologists and the Geologists.  I am pretty sure most people thing that Biology is MUCH more interesting than Geology.  But here we are again. Without the Geology, we don't get the Biology.  I made a shirt anyway... for the Biology/Geology/Photography Team!

Team Birds or Team Plants...

Which came first, the Bird or the Plant to Hawaii...without the plant, the birds cannot survive and without the birds, the plants are not successful.  Did the first plant make it over to Hawaii because of a bird or because of wind or water...

So, what happens when you stick a Botanist with a Zoologist...some friendly bantering...and these shirts.  Then the question is to order or not to order...
