#HFS2018

I started this Blog when I first started working with the North Lake College Summer Hawaiian Field Studies course. I knew that in 2 weeks, I would learn so much and I needed a place to document it. I was right. I went back through my pictures when I got home and thought, "Did we stop here? I don't remember this!". So I went back to my Blog and was reminded of that moment. So many great moments, so many great stories...here is where I document them. Please read, enjoy, send me questions, comments, etc.

I will be streaming live using Periscope on my Twitter Page. Follow me @Laronna_D on Twitter and @ldoggett on Instagram

Day 12 - Kilauea Lighthouse and Anini Reef

We got to do a super cool service learning activity with the Kilauea Lighthouse. We went to an area where they are doing bird research and needed a path made for the biologists to get out to nesting sites for research. The view were stunning. I also got to see some Laysan Albatross.  They were so cute!  They were at different stages of getting their adult feathers, so some looked pretty crazy!  Once they figure out how to fly, they do not return to land for 4 years!  Crazy!

The view at the other end of the new pathway was spectacular.

The view at near the beginning of the new pathway was not bad either.

Once we were done, we headed to Anini Beach and Reef to complete one final reef collection. The tide had come in some, so it was a little rougher than normal, but still cool critters and beautiful.

Ended the stay in Kauai with one more (yes..this makes 3) fish tacos from the Sleeping Giant Cafe.
