#HFS2018

I started this Blog when I first started working with the North Lake College Summer Hawaiian Field Studies course. I knew that in 2 weeks, I would learn so much and I needed a place to document it. I was right. I went back through my pictures when I got home and thought, "Did we stop here? I don't remember this!". So I went back to my Blog and was reminded of that moment. So many great moments, so many great stories...here is where I document them. Please read, enjoy, send me questions, comments, etc.

I will be streaming live using Periscope on my Twitter Page. Follow me @Laronna_D on Twitter and @ldoggett on Instagram

Day 1 - The Early Morning Flight and Waikiki Beach

So what do I look like at 4 AM.  This just about says it all. Well, the picture on the left is at 4 AM and the picture on the right is at noon Hawaii time....just in case you could not see that I was more awake in the second picture.

So, what happens when your airplane breaks down and about 3/4 of the students are moved to the 4 PM (San Francisco time) flight...well, a few of us were lucky enough to get to Hawaii on schedule and be at the hotel by noon, so we had lunch and went to the beach!  Poor Prof. Dempsey (and poor students).  He was with the rest of the group sitting in the San Francisco for hours!

So, beach here we come!

Here is Kate's attempt to take a picture of me in the water.  This look on my face is because the currents were so strong, they were puling me backwards!  The second picture is better.  It was so nice out on the beach and in the water.

The sad part about the delayed flight is that we were not able to go to Hanauma Bay.  But, this also means that the Biologists will take over on the Big Island and do some snorkeling there :-)

Tomorrow will be our last day in Oahu.  We are going to go to Coconut Island and then to the Aquarium.  I have no doubt that we will have at least one random stop along the way.
