#HFS2018

I started this Blog when I first started working with the North Lake College Summer Hawaiian Field Studies course. I knew that in 2 weeks, I would learn so much and I needed a place to document it. I was right. I went back through my pictures when I got home and thought, "Did we stop here? I don't remember this!". So I went back to my Blog and was reminded of that moment. So many great moments, so many great stories...here is where I document them. Please read, enjoy, send me questions, comments, etc.

I will be streaming live using Periscope on my Twitter Page. Follow me @Laronna_D on Twitter and @ldoggett on Instagram

Day 4 - Keauhou Bird Conservation Center and Night Snorkel

Keauhou Bird Conservation Center day! Iwikauikaua met us and brought us into the center. There was an elementary group there also, and we got to hear them ask for permission to enter the land.

After lunch, we planted 4 year old Metrosideros polymorpha  to help restore cattle land to natural land. This is "my" tree that I planted. I sent a lot if positive thoughts so that it would grow big and strong. This was a group effort.  I had two studetns helping me dig a hole in the ground.  The ground was tough and there were some pieces of Lava along the way.

Here is our group after the planting. A lot if hard work but always worth it. It feels good to give back to the land and community. I would really like to see the hillside where we replanted native plants last year.  Iwikau is supposed to send a picture.

Iwikauikaua was given a present from Texas....a little piece if Texas left in Hawaii. Such a wonderful person that we get to encounter in Hawaii!!

A little art on the back of the van. Team Dojet. Apparently, this is my alter ego...
